Problem:
(1) Guitar Center stores experienced periodic disconnections from the WAN, which disabled their POS. Customers suffered long waits while sales people used pencil and paper to hand write sales receipts. Guitar Center had chosen dial-up lines as "back up" connections, but the dial-up lines simply weren't working as emergency connections.
